Ready for the crack of the bat? As the frost melts across Long Island, the spring baseball season is right around the corner. Whether your child is stepping onto the dirt for the first time in T-Ball or preparing for the competitive jump to Kid Pitch, the “winter rust” is real.

For parents in Suffolk County, getting ahead of the game doesn’t require a trip to Florida for spring training. Right here in Holtsville, R3 Athlete Performance is hosting a specialized Pre-Season Skills Clinic designed to turn beginners into confident players and seasoned vets into All-Stars.

Why a Pre-Season Clinic is a Game-Changer

Spring season in Town Rec or Little League moves fast. Often, team practices don’t start until the weather breaks, leaving kids with only a few days of prep before their first game. A skills clinic provides several key advantages:

  • Confidence Boost: There is nothing more intimidating for a 7-year-old than stepping into a batter’s box without having swung a bat in six months. We build the “muscle memory” that creates on-field confidence.

  • Injury Prevention: Jumping straight into “throwing hard” can strain young arms. We teach proper mechanics and warm-up routines to keep players healthy.

  • Small Group Focus: Unlike a crowded team practice with 12+ kids, our indoor clinics at R3 Athlete Performance focus on high-repetition drills with professional feedback.

  • Foundational Fundamentals: We don’t just “play catch.” We teach the why and how behind every movement.

What Your Athlete Will Learn

Our curriculum is tailored for ages 4-12, covering everything from the basics of Coach Pitch to the nuances of In-House and Travel ball.

1. Hitting & Hand-Eye Coordination

We break down the swing into manageable steps: the stance, the load, and the finish. Kids will use age-appropriate drills to improve bat speed and contact consistency.

2. Fielding & Glove Work

From “alligator hands” for the T-Ballers to advanced footwork for our 12U players, we cover infield and outfield fundamentals. Your child will learn how to read a ground ball and the correct way to “charge” the play.

3. Throwing Mechanics

Accuracy is king. We teach the proper grip (4-seam), the “power position,” and how to use the entire body—not just the arm—to make a strong, safe throw.

4. Base Running & Sliding

The “hidden” skills! We teach kids how to run through first base, how to take a turn, and most importantly, how to slide safely to avoid injuries while beating the tag.
